Secaucus ranks lowest on the Charlotte-kingdom mainly due to its alarmingly close proximity to NYC, but a few other factors sway the ranking in terms of how the lifts compare to Atlantic City, New Haven & Hartford.
As of June 1st, there will officially be at least cities in the Charlotte-kingdom. (Cities not added yet are in bold) These cities will be:
- Charlotte - The queen of the kingdom
- Indianapolis
- Saint Louis
- Kansas City (MO)
- San Diego
- San Francisco
- Sacramento
- Los Angeles
- Houston
- Dallas
- San Antonio
- Fort Lauderdale
- Miami
- Atlanta
- Pittsburgh
- Milwaukee
- Chicago
- Hartford
- New Haven
- Stamford
- White Plains
- Rochester
- Buffalo
- Atlantic City
- Secaucus - last place in the Charlotte-kingdom
As you all may know, I have ranked each city's place very accurately based on the research I have done on each city's lifts. I have watched about 20 videos for each city I haven't added on the Charlotte-kingdom yet & I will say that I have been impressed just by watching. And interestingly enough, I was NEVER expecting any part of New York State to have any possibility whatsoever of ending up in the Charlotte-kingdom. However, Rochester, White Plains & Buffalo (I've seen & ridden in a couple of the lifts myself) in YouTube videos had so many awesome lifts that I could not leave them off of the Charlotte-kingdom. Even the modern lifts in those New York cities were amazing. Bottom Line: If you're in New York State, the further you are away from NYC, the better the lifts you will find.
This also raises another question: If New York State is the state of hell for lift enthusiasm, then why on earth is Secaucus & Atlantic City ranked below White Plains, Rochester & Buffalo?
In reality, any city in New York State should be theoretically ranked the most dead of last on the list due to the fact that New York State has New York City in it (the worst city to film lifts, because of Manhattan's 50-80 story generic pieces of shrritz, with second worst being New Rochelle, within reasonable driving distance of New York City). In fact, White Plains, Rochester & Buffalo were ranked above Secaucus & Atlantic City on the list because they simply have a greater variety of lifts with a greater variety of character & class (how the buttons look & how the lifts run). It is worth noting that Rochester has fairly modern Canadian lifts (Northern lifts) which have far superior ride character to those in Buffalo & even white plains which are filled with the relay controlled & awesome hydraulic lifts.
In reality, any city in New York State should be theoretically ranked the most dead of last on the list due to the fact that New York State has New York City in it.Since some states have multiple Charlotte-kingdom cities in them, now entire states can be considered a part of the Charlotte-kingdom, called the Carolina family:
- North Carolina
- Missouri
- New Jersey
- California
- Florida
- Texas
- Georgia
- Connecticut
- New York (All cities & towns in New York State EXCEPT FOR NEW YORK CITY & NEW ROCHELLE)
There are currently 9 states in the Carolina Family, which is an extension of the Charlotte-kingdom.
If Secaucus has awesome lifts, just like every other of the 25 cities on the theoretical Charlotte-kingdom ranking system, then how come it is dead last?
Note: Any lift filmed anywhere in the Meadowlands area of New Jersey that does not have EPCO SSL buttons (even Monitor TR is fine, including 1000, since EPCO SSL has been known to make Monitor TR look awesome [awesome, as in Innovation Pinnacle awesome]) could technically count towards a Secaucus lift video.
This is due to 4 or more reasons:
- Tallest publicly accessible, free-to-film buildings are 10 floors (hence, Secaucus being called the legendary 10-story Utopia for New York City lift enthusiasts looking for paradise)
- Only 15 free-to-film (without prior permission) buildings throughout the 10-story town. Due to the size of Secaucus, it will always be dead last on the list of Charlotte-kingdom rank cities.
- Secaucus has been promoted as a playground for NY & NJ based lift enthusiasts living within a 60-mile radius of New York City to get a feel of what to expect in each of the other will be 24 Charlotte-kingdom cities. Secaucus is not supposed to be the getaway city, it should be visited to get ideas for a trip to another city in the Charlotte Kingdom or another state in the Carolina Family.
- Secaucus lifts can get disproportionally busy at times, making it ultra difficult to capture the character. Trust me, if you want to go to Secaucus & you are within a 60-mile radius of NYC, save the 9 story Embassy Suites glass Westinghouse lifts for late at night or early in the morning.
For your AFL update, it is extremely unlikely, if not, next to impossible that we will be going to any other Charlotte-kingdom city besides Secaucus or Atlantic City this summer. Atlanta is looking less promising, as Atlantic City & Secaucus are both looking far more promising. There is a 33 percent chance we will be going to Atlantic City as of May 6. By June 3rd when the every-Sunday blog posts roll out for Atlantic City, Atlanta & Fort Lauderdale, the probability of the Atlantic City trend will level out at 33%. The probability of Secaucus will by June 17 level out at 66%, the single unique case of a Charlotte-kingdom trip in long-term planning rising anywhere above the 33% line.
