LIFT FILMING UPDATE FOR FEBRUARY/MARCH 2019

February 2019

It is finally February 2019, another great (being sarcastic) month to look forward to (being sarcastic). In terms of lift filming, not much is in the plans for February 2019, other than my obvious birthday trip to Berkeley Heights, a township without rank on the Chicago Chattanooga Ranking System. In Berkeley Heights, I will hopefully be visiting the brand new Embassy Suites hotel to film some new lifts.

My expectations for the lifts

I expect to find boring generic MCE traction lifts. However, I have high hopes that I will find a Schindler 5500, a KONE HORNRTDISC, OTIS Gen2 or worst case scenario: a ThyssenKrupp Synergy/Evolution 200. I expect all landings to be locked off & I am actively preparing to face that scenario. However, if a few landings aren’t on restricted access, I may still film the lifts.

Likelihood of my birthday trip happening

My birthday trip does not have a very big chance of happening. I do NOT expect to film any lifts on the day that I turn 18 years old. However, if I DON’T film ANY lifts that I have never seen or been on (YouTube or RL), I will accept that too & save the special lifts instead for the graduation trip I’m planning for June 15/16 should I have PASSED THE ROAD TEST in March or April 2019 (EXTREMELY UNLIKELY).

March 2019

March 2019 will be a very interesting month. So far, 2019 has been slighty better than 2017, but not much. March 2019 will determine if 2019 is the same or WORSE than 2017. However, here lies an important event that the future of my lift filming career partially depends on:

Driving Test

In March 2019, on March 8, at 3:30 PM, I am going to be taking my driving test. Am I scared? I haven’t ever been more scared to do something. In fact, I’m so scared for this road test that I have been fearful of the worst ever since June 2018 when I originally started contemplating ramping up my lift filming days off of school. Not only do I expect to fail miserably on this driving test, but I am actively preparing to face this very scenario by ignoring all other scenarios. Basically, in a nutshell, I am doing myself good by preparing for the potential worst-case scenario.

However, in the highly unlikely/borderline impossible event that I should pass the road test & get my license ON MARCH 8, the plans I have for lift filming on March 9 (March 10 is the busy date) depend greatly on the number of tests & projects that I have the following week, along with the difficulty I’m expecting each test & the amount of homework I get that is due on Monday.

That said, it is borderline certain I shall fail the road test on March 8. If that happens, I may retake the test on March 22nd with the hope that I pass, but my expectations for failing will be much greater than my first try on the road test.

I will be back soon to discuss more lift filming plans after graduation that are valid only if I have my license by the said date of my next lift filming day!

Why Schindler & KONE make the best traction lifts

Over the past 2 & a half years of filming lifts at different buildings all over the Eastern Seaboard, I have managed to film a handful of OTIS, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp & KONE traction lifts. Here is my assumption: Schindler & KONE make the best traction & MRL traction lifts of any of the 4 major lift brands. Of course, this could be based on personal bias, but it doesn’t go without knowledge that Schindler lifts, are in fact, more efficient time-based than let’s say, ThyssenKrupp lifts. Here are some things that I really love about Schindler & KONE traction lifts. Their fast acceleration / leveling It is no surprise that Schindler & KONE have some of the fastest average accelerating rates of any major lift brand. This is because Schindler & KONE have a perfect reference-tackle system, which is almost unbeatable by standards of other lift brands. One thing I have noticed when riding Schindler lifts is even at low speeds (200-400 FPM), you head feels like...

Found the source of the problems with my PC

I am proud to finally tell y’all that I believe I have found a definite source of the problems I have been experiencing with my Windows PC over the past few days. It was because of a faulty Windows 10 preview update which was affecting the Windows 10 Recovery Environment. Luckily, I have found a trustworthy program (free of malware) which I could use to debug errors in my PC at any time, minor or major. Luckily,  none of the problems I am experiencing with my PC right now are  anywhere close to what’s happened when I tried to fix windows PC’s in the past. I am still taking  every precaution possible to further decrease the chance of my Windows PC breaking down or crashing. As a matter of fact, my PC almost crashed  this morning , but luckily, I was able to hard-restart the PC to get it working again by holding the power button down for 15-20 seconds. Luckily,  none of the problems I am experiencing with my PC right now are  anywhere close to what’s h...

THE OTIS IN ANAHEIM

Before writing this report, let me quickly give you some background on the lifts and escalators that I have seen during my time at DisneyLand in Anaheim, California with my family. Brief Overview While I was at DisneyLand in Anaheim, I have encountered four sets of very tall MontgomeryKONE escalators, a set of two very fast MontgomeryKONE traction units (partially outdoor as the first landing had a rear door that opened on the outside of the building), this OTIS hydro here that I managed to ride and film & another OTIS hydro that I didn’t get to ride nor film. These lifts, regardless, were still very awesome lifts, but for now, I will be going into a description of this amazing lift. What made this lift so amazing? This particular lift is so amazing because it’s a full-blown commercial hydraulic lift installed fully outdoors , which is rather unusual for an outdoor lift. This alone made it amazing. Upon first glance, it looks like a pretty standard lift that you would typical...
