WHAT’S NEW: MAY 29

Made a trip to Millburn Township, New Jersey

In Millburn, I filmed around 9 lifts, all at the mall at Short Hills.

Disappointment at Neiman Marcus

As I was waking into Neiman Marcus on the morning of May 25, I was expecting an original Montgomery Twinkie-M from the 1990’s, but when I got to the lift lobby, I arrived only to find out that the call buttons have been replaced with brand new Innovation Prestige buttons from the past 6 months!!! This was an utter disappointment as I have been wanting to film the original Montgomery lift for ages upon ages!!! Even though the lift appeared to have been modernised, I decided to take a look inside the lift to see if it actually got modernised. Upon entering the lift, turns out that it DID get modernised with a brand new set of Innovation Prestige buttons (pretty good buttons, some of my favorite from Innovation), so I decided to take a ride in it to find out if the machinery have been replaced with new machinery. Turns out, the machinery was still fully original as when the lift doors closed, the lift made a violent jolt downwards (a characterful element). I totally liked this violent acceleration, and it made me believe that the Montgomery motor and logic were still original.

Upon arriving at the ground floor of the shopping center, the lift took ages to level with the floor, which was an utter disappointment. While examining some videos of when the lift was still fully original, I noticed that it did not have the same leveling problem as it did when it was modernised, which means that the modernising lift company must have reprogrammed the logic to enforce slow leveling of the lift. In retrospect, it took about 12-15 seconds to level with the first floor, while it only took 7 seconds for the lift to fly down from floor 2 to floor 1 (hydraulic). Taking longer to level than to travel is pathetic. Because of this, the new lift is now the worst lift I have ridden in short hills mall.

Now that I was able to get a ride down to the first floor, I decided to ride the lift back up to the second floor to find out what the motor sounded like and to see if the lift would have the same leveling problem going up as it went down. I pushed the button for the second floor, and the lift doors closed immediately, which was a good start. The lift kicked into action immediately, flying from floor 1 to floor 2 with its roaring motor running in the background. The motor was extremely epic, and it radiated throughout the entire lift cabin & through the shaft. I was quite happy with the footage I got from that lift, despite it being horridly modernised, logic-wise.

Broken Schindler lift at Nordstrom

It’s not like Schindler M-Series to break down out of the blue. But with all lifts, one eventually has to fail over the course of its product lifespan. These lifts are from 1995, which is another factor that goes into consideration when predicting when a lift would break down. Even though I didn’t expect this to happen with a high-rise model of Schindler M-Series, anything is possible with Murphy’s Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

I only found out that car 2 at Nordstrom was broken AFTER I rode car 1 at Nordstrom a bunch of times & tried to call car 2 from all 3 floors. That was a disappointment, and the only lift that was working was constantly busy & always picking up passengers. This was annoying! When I had the lift to myself, I rode the lift down from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor, of course, filming the lift with my Windows Phone camera (flashlight built-in). That was a very annoying fail.

Had to film the lift at Macy’s, because anything Schindler, old or new, is EPIC!

How can I put into words a detailed description of the lift at Macy’s? It is EXTREMELY EPIC! I totally enjoyed riding the lift at Macy’s, even though Schindler replaced the original OTIS lift with a custom-built 330A in the past 12 months, just like Schindler replaced a 1990 Dover custom Impulse lift at IKEA in 2015. Upon entering Macy’s from the 2nd floor entrance of the mall, I noticed that the ‘up’ escalator to the 3rd floor was out of order, so the only way to get up there was via lift. Very well then, I headed to the ‘down’ escalator to go to the first floor to ride the lift up to the third floor because on the first floor, the lift was near all of the men’s apparel. I immediately got into the lift the second the doors opened, and went up to the third floor. In the lift, was a brand new wooden car interior with LED lights on the ceiling, and MAD-BS moon buttons, along with a TV-screen floor indicator displaying red floor-numbering on a white background (possibly Helvetica Neue condensed). The ride was very smooth, and it felt like a 2-speed traction lift, not a hydro. The motor was very quiet from where we were in the shaft. Upon leaving the lift on the 3rd floor, I explored the furniture gallery, which was full of epicly-designed household furniture, kitchenware and other appliances.

Back to the lift I went, and I got my Samsung Galaxy S8 camera rolling. I aimed it at the buttons, then at the TV-screen floor indicator, and enjoyed the ride back down to the first floor, where I would exit Short Hills mall, get in my car and drive off to the Beaver Brook concourse in Clinton Township on Route 31.

Lift filming experience in general

In general, I was pretty happy with the lifts I found and filmed, except for the new lift at Neiman Marcus, which now runs generic and boring. Only three of the lifts I filmed weren’t Schindler, and I filmed 9 lifts in total on May 25. Will I be returning to Short Hills anytime soon? Totally!

How are my grades looking?

As of May 25, my grades are the following:

Class Graduation requirement Current grade in class Earned A’s for first 3 marking periods Taking final exams
Math N A Y N
Health Y A Y N
Spanish N A Y N
English Y B N Y
Biology Y A Y N
History Y A- N Y
Physics Y A Y N
Python Prog Y A Y N

PAGE_BREAK: PageBreak

These are exactly where my grades should be at any given point in time within the next 14 days. During the week of June 7-13, I will be asking every teacher in each class I am currently exempt from finals if I am still exempt from finals. And if not, here are my plans:

Plan Resort
A
  • Receive an A for all marking periods by the time the exam begins (must have an A also for the final marking period)
  • Skip the finals, worry-free
B
    • Gain enough leeway before a final exam that I can safely fail & still keep my chances of being rescinded from kean reduced
  • Fail the final exam in the event where I don’t have all A’s & still be fine
  • Graduate
  • KEAN University acceptance does not get withdrawn
  • I will have a happy life
C
    • I fail final exams (but still graduate)
    • KEAN University acceptance gets withdrawn
    • Since I now have a job, I will use the opportunity to go directly into the workforce

D
  • I end up not getting my diploma on June 13 or at any point during the summer & forced to take another year of school or attend summer school
  • KEAN University acceptance gets withdrawn
  • I will go straight into the workforce and not care which field I go into, as long as I make enough money to get through the next 70-90 years of my life

Currently, I am still between plans A & B, which will ensure that I am doing something that I am passionate doing for the rest of the time that I am still alive.

Am I stressed out?

I am stressed out, but as long as I know what I’m doing on each assignments & I still have bits & pieces of luck to hold on to during each new assignment that happens within the next 19-20 (or 385-386 if I don’t graduate) days of the first phase of my life, my stress levels will be much lower. My stress levels are high when I find an assignment very hard and I cannot accurately predict the worst-case scenario before the assignment begins. I am actually in the middle of a nervous breakdown due to the worries of not making it to that ceremony (there are so many circumstances that could hold me back from enjoying the graduation ceremony that I am forced not to be excited about graduating), but with each good day I have at school (they are somehow becoming more common, which was the opposite of what happened last year, where bad days became more common), it mitigates the chance of me having a meltdown as a facet of the prolonged nervous breakdown that I am currently going through. This nervous breakdown will take over me each waking day I have until I begin classes at KEAN University. Ultimately, I hope to get into KEAN University, and, because I want to have the best life possible before I get lifted by my personal angel in her arms to heaven, I have a four-plan system for if something happens within the next 3 months that ultimately bars me from having the best future possible FRIRNDS.

What will happen if I graduate?

If I graduate (which seems unlikely, even though school officials have been telling me left and right all year that I have been doing very well in school), then here are the plans for the first part of Summer recess until I go to KEAN (schedule subject to change at any given moment).

30 Film lifts locally on Route 31 in Clinton Township

Event at Old Bermuda Inn (5:30-10:30 PM)

What will happen if (more like when) I don’t graduate?

Lift filming will still begin on June 17, but the schedule will be fully dependent on work and/or school demands for the summer. I will quit lift filming upon my return to high school and only film lifts if there are less than two tests the following week with a difficulty of two at maximum.

However, if I do get my diploma between June 13 and September 3rd, then lift filming plans are dependent upon my acceptance status to KEAN University.

Am I worried about my grades?

I have never been more worried about my grades at any point in time than right now. This is because these final grades decide how the rest of my waking days on this planet will go. Hence, I am working harder than I ever have imagined to hold on to any little bits of luck that I have between now and then.

Am I happy to leave school and go to KEAN? And, if so, what is my plan when I go to KEAN?

While I’m happy in general to leave school, I am not in any way excited, due to the huge possibility of things going wrong between now and September 3rd when KEAN University classes begin. Once I am settled into KEAN University (that is if I am still attending KEAN as of day 1 of classes), I will begin being excited about the future (but while at KEAN University, I will work even harder than I did in high school to maximize the chances of graduating from KEAN University as soon as possible, therefore accumulating as little student debt as possible). There can be entire semesters at times where I may be inactive from YouTube and all other services and temporarily totally abandon my lift filming career altogether, especially during the senior year of KEAN University when I am being bombarded front & center with new research papers, projects and the final CAPSTONE project.

When will my stress levels reset? And how quickly will they reset? Will they rise? If so, how quickly?

My stress levels will begin to rise EVEN MORE QUICKLY than they have ever risen before within my high school career (even during the worst part of it during February-March 2017 when I lost all hope within a matter of ONE WEEK). This will be regarded one of the two climaxes of the nervous breakdown I have been going through since the beginning of the 4th marking period of my senior year in high school. In the best possible case scenario (I graduate and my KEAN University acceptance status probably won’t be withdrawn), my stress levels will rise and drop depending on what happens between June 13 & September 3. From day 1 of classes at KEAN (that’s if I’m still accepted by then), my stress levels will reset and then rise according to what assignments I have to do during the first semester at KEAN University). My biggest hope is that work is a relaxing environment and not a chaotic environment like I have been expecting since middle school.

What are my plans for prom this Friday?

I do not have a prom date, but, however, I know other senior frirnds who also don’t have prom dates either, so I have decided to still go to prom. If my grades are exactly where they should be by the time prom looms around, immediately after returning home from school, I will do any quick assignments that I can bang out of the way in half an hour or less, before heading off to the Beaver Avenue office complex in downtown Annandale to film some of the 1980’s Series 1 lifts at Vector Marketing – Clinton TWP, or some other building in Clinton Township. The lifts I film the next day are fully dependent on how much I enjoy prom. If I have a wonderful time, I will film many of the same lifts I filmed this past Saturday at Short Hills Mall & I will possibly try to film the lifts at the Hilton next door. However, if I do not have a wonderful time, I will stay home and prepare for final exams in the classes that I am currently not exempt from finals. I will also study harder than ever before for any and all upcoming quizzes and tests popping up at anytime between June 3 and June 6. I will also work harder than ever before on any other assignment between June 3 and June 6 to ensure exemption from finals in the classes I am currently exempt from finals, especially those who are graduation requirements!!

Your next round of updates will be up on June 5!

Found the source of the problems with my PC

I am proud to finally tell y’all that I believe I have found a definite source of the problems I have been experiencing with my Windows PC over the past few days. It was because of a faulty Windows 10 preview update which was affecting the Windows 10 Recovery Environment. Luckily, I have found a trustworthy program (free of malware) which I could use to debug errors in my PC at any time, minor or major. Luckily,  none of the problems I am experiencing with my PC right now are  anywhere close to what’s happened when I tried to fix windows PC’s in the past. I am still taking  every precaution possible to further decrease the chance of my Windows PC breaking down or crashing. As a matter of fact, my PC almost crashed  this morning , but luckily, I was able to hard-restart the PC to get it working again by holding the power button down for 15-20 seconds. Luckily,  none of the problems I am experiencing with my PC right now are  anywhere close to what’s h...

LIFT FILMING AGENDA UPDATE 1.25.2019 & WILL CHICAGO BE CROWNED THE NEW KING?

Chicago holds a high possibility of being crowned first place . What if I told you that Chicago has some rare and exotic lifts that you probably won’t find in many other places in the U.S.? That is an existence a lift filmer will be delighted with when they go to the city of Chicago. My four figures of reference were: WI Sirens and Elevators Elevators of Lake County CHI Elevators Windy City Elevators Because I have found so many outstanding Montgomery, Dover, SchindlerHaughton, Westinghouse and KONE lifts throughout the city of Chicago, it wouldn’t be sensible for me to write it all under one big blog post, because it would be a big waste of time for me to go into big, elaborate detail on what made each lift stand out. What I found on YouTube in terms of Chicago lifts Mitsubishi and Fujitec These lift filmers have walked around the city of Chicago filming some super nice lifts, and in the process of watching YouTube videos over the past few months, I have found that Ch...

QUICK RUNDOWN OF THE NORMAL BEHAVIOR OF A 700A

Tallest 700A’s I have been on Arguably, at 20 stories, these have been the tallest Schindler 700A’s I have EVER been on, and the first I’ve been on in a hotel. However, I have noticed some interesting characteristics of the Schindler 700A in mid to high rise applications. Epic lifts indeed To start off, these lifts had absolutely incredible acceleration, deceleration and leveling. They take off like rockets and travel at a mindblowing speed of 120 meters per minute, despite serving a travel distance of 55-60 meters. The deceleration is similar to the Schindler 700A’s at the Nordstrom store at the Mall at Short Hills, as it smoothly phases into its full deceleration mode. In terms of character, these lifts do tend to make a little bit of noise and shake on the way up and down the tower. Car 3 makes a very loud screeching noise as it accelerates towards level 17 going down, which I find to make the ride even more fun. These lifts were installed in 1993, which gives them even more 199...
