KEAN UNIVERSITY HIGH SPEED LIFT GALORE INFO

KEAN UNIVERSITY HIGH SPEED LIFT GALORE

Premiere Time: 11:00 PM November 25

First Lift

Technical Specifications:

Brand/Power

Generic Traction Overhead w/ EPCO Buttons

Year Installed

2010

Door Type

Single Speed Center Opening

Speed

1.52 m/s

General Chicago’s Rating

3.5/5 - Basic Standard

This is a very nice lift for a generic & goes 1.5 meters per second (300 F.P.M) making it very fast for its height of only 6b floors. It also behaves differently from some generic lifts as it does not slow down right away when the screen changes to the desired floor. Aside from the way it runs it is just a basic standard Generic that you would see in any modern building that chooses a third-party lift. It has EPCO buttons & was installed in 2010 when the building was built.

Second Lift

Technical Specifications:

Brand/Power

Schindler Traction MRL w/ HT Premium

Year Installed

2014

Door Type

Single Speed Side Opening

Speed

1.78 m/s

General Chicago’s Rating

4 / 5 - Great

Right around the time the Schindler 5500 MRL came out in the USA, Kean University constructed the new building at the edge of campus right next to the main Union Township NJTransit station on the Raritan Rail. The University decided to go with 400AE installs in lieu of 5500 installs and these lifts were installed in 2014 when the building was built. The main lifts in this video have the Schindler 5500 voice (I assume it was an upgrade), HT Premium fixtures & go 1.78 meters per second (350 F.P.M). This lift accelerates so smoothly you can’t tell you’re flying up & down the building at 1.78 m/s. It is amazing & runs almost exactly like a 5500 anyway.

Third Lift

Technical Specifications:

Brand/Power

Otis Gen2 (Third Gen) Traction MRL w/ Newer Series 2

Year Installed

2016

Door Type

Single Speed Side Opening

Speed

1.78 m/s

General Chicago’s Rating

4.1 / 5 - Great

These are my favorite modern lifts on campus because they have so much character to them. Built in September 2016, these lifts boast a high speed of 1.78 m/s just like its sister building across campus. They also serve 6 floors just like the other 2 lifts in film & have Newer Series 2 fixtures on a Gen2 MRL system. These are the least reliable of the 3 as they’ve broken down twice while I was on campus before the pandemic started while the 400AE’s & high speed generics broke down 0 times. The way these accelerate, decelerate & run make them super fun to ride. This whole building brings back Borgata vibes from my trips to Atlantic City in July 2017 & February 2018.

Why Schindler & KONE make the best traction lifts

Over the past 2 & a half years of filming lifts at different buildings all over the Eastern Seaboard, I have managed to film a handful of OTIS, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp & KONE traction lifts. Here is my assumption: Schindler & KONE make the best traction & MRL traction lifts of any of the 4 major lift brands. Of course, this could be based on personal bias, but it doesn’t go without knowledge that Schindler lifts, are in fact, more efficient time-based than let’s say, ThyssenKrupp lifts. Here are some things that I really love about Schindler & KONE traction lifts. Their fast acceleration / leveling It is no surprise that Schindler & KONE have some of the fastest average accelerating rates of any major lift brand. This is because Schindler & KONE have a perfect reference-tackle system, which is almost unbeatable by standards of other lift brands. One thing I have noticed when riding Schindler lifts is even at low speeds (200-400 FPM), you head feels like...

THE OTIS IN ANAHEIM

Before writing this report, let me quickly give you some background on the lifts and escalators that I have seen during my time at DisneyLand in Anaheim, California with my family. Brief Overview While I was at DisneyLand in Anaheim, I have encountered four sets of very tall MontgomeryKONE escalators, a set of two very fast MontgomeryKONE traction units (partially outdoor as the first landing had a rear door that opened on the outside of the building), this OTIS hydro here that I managed to ride and film & another OTIS hydro that I didn’t get to ride nor film. These lifts, regardless, were still very awesome lifts, but for now, I will be going into a description of this amazing lift. What made this lift so amazing? This particular lift is so amazing because it’s a full-blown commercial hydraulic lift installed fully outdoors , which is rather unusual for an outdoor lift. This alone made it amazing. Upon first glance, it looks like a pretty standard lift that you would typical...
