Plans to Go Hybrid After the Brunt of Omicron

I'm sure you all know how horrible this new Omicron variant of the coronavirus is. I'm praying with you all that the Omicron variant ends up going away soon enough. However, I have some good news: I am able to film lifts virtually again thanks to a tip from the Skyscrapersim forum of the Beno Building Creators being hidden behind slightly altered URL's. I was able to figure this out pretty quickly, tested it to verify the validity & voila! I'm back to virtual lift filming (for the foreseeable future).

For over a year & a half, I could not film any lifts virtually due to the original links to the Skyscrapersim building creators being put behind a firewall.

I must make one thing very clear. Despite being fully vaccinated, boosted & continuing to wear my mask, social distancing & sanitizing my hands thoroughly & frequently when I'm out, along with abiding by other coronavirus safety guidelines, given the such high Omicron transmission numbers throughout not just New Jersey but throughout the entire United States, paired with hospitalizations & deaths increasing, I am no longer able to safely continue to film lifts IP until the numbers head back down.

I do plan to go hybrid once the Omicron brunt is past us, however. Here are my hybrid plans:
  • On lift filming days where the 7-day average for coronavirus transmission is 49,999 or fewer, the IP trip will occur.
  • On lift filming days where the 7-day average for coronavirus transmission is 50,000 or higher, the IP trip will be replaced with a VI alternative. The VI alternative will be built at the beginning of the week the IP trip is scheduled for, probably on a Sunday.
  • During transmission valleys where the transmission is 49,999 or fewer for a longer period of time, I will alternate between IP trips & VI days.
Along with that, VI lift videos seem to be performing better on my YouTube channel compared to the IP counterparts.

Reference Legend:
  • IP: In-person
  • VI: Virtual

Why Schindler & KONE make the best traction lifts

Over the past 2 & a half years of filming lifts at different buildings all over the Eastern Seaboard, I have managed to film a handful of OTIS, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp & KONE traction lifts. Here is my assumption: Schindler & KONE make the best traction & MRL traction lifts of any of the 4 major lift brands. Of course, this could be based on personal bias, but it doesn’t go without knowledge that Schindler lifts, are in fact, more efficient time-based than let’s say, ThyssenKrupp lifts. Here are some things that I really love about Schindler & KONE traction lifts. Their fast acceleration / leveling It is no surprise that Schindler & KONE have some of the fastest average accelerating rates of any major lift brand. This is because Schindler & KONE have a perfect reference-tackle system, which is almost unbeatable by standards of other lift brands. One thing I have noticed when riding Schindler lifts is even at low speeds (200-400 FPM), you head feels like...

Paramus Lift Galore: June 2022

Written on behalf of the Rising Salamander Academy Lift Galore Date: June 17 Lift Galore Time: 5:00 PM EST It's been a long time since I've last filmed lifts in person, a whole whopping half a year to be exact. I'm excited to be back, but not for long, since I have to finish up my time at Kean University & focus on graduating on time. But for the mean time, let's enjoy our summer recess, film the best lifts we can film & make the most of it! Westinghouse Lift Where: Macy's, Garden State Plaza Time Filmed: 10:10 AM (June 10) Grade: B+ Speed to Height Ratio: 8.1:1 (Fast) Landings Served: 3 The first lift of this lift galore is a 1950's Westinghouse lift which was later modernised by a generic company between the 1980's & early 2000's with EPCO Flushline fixtures on the outside, EPCO Circleline fixtures on the inside. This lift has a speed to height ratio of 8.1:1 which makes it fast for the application & number of landings. This lift is loc...

THE OTIS IN ANAHEIM

Before writing this report, let me quickly give you some background on the lifts and escalators that I have seen during my time at DisneyLand in Anaheim, California with my family. Brief Overview While I was at DisneyLand in Anaheim, I have encountered four sets of very tall MontgomeryKONE escalators, a set of two very fast MontgomeryKONE traction units (partially outdoor as the first landing had a rear door that opened on the outside of the building), this OTIS hydro here that I managed to ride and film & another OTIS hydro that I didn’t get to ride nor film. These lifts, regardless, were still very awesome lifts, but for now, I will be going into a description of this amazing lift. What made this lift so amazing? This particular lift is so amazing because it’s a full-blown commercial hydraulic lift installed fully outdoors , which is rather unusual for an outdoor lift. This alone made it amazing. Upon first glance, it looks like a pretty standard lift that you would typical...
