Broke the record for the oldest lift I filmed!

Oldest & BEST lift I have filmed throughout my career so far

60S LEGACY OTIS

The buttons you see in the pictures above are the buttons on the lift that I managed to film this morning at Newark Liberty International Airport when I was picking up my family relatives from the airport.

FROM A DISTANCE, I could see a very vintage-looking lift, so I rode the escalator (60s legacy OTIS escalator upgraded in the 2000s by KONE) up to the 2nd floor of the airport, where I picked up my family relatives. Little did I know, I was going to have the opportunity to ride this awesome old lift when I saw that their baggage was heavy enough to recommend use of the lift! When I saw the baggage being piled onto the cart, I immediately became TOO FAR BEYOND EXCITED because I knew it wouldn't be able to fit on the escalator! Excited was like the BIGGEST UNDERSTATEMENT!

Excitement started brewing in me when we started slowly walking towards THAT LIFT! When I saw the original, old-style 60s standard OTIS call button with the rotodial floor counter & FIBERGLASS BLACK BUTTONS WITH THE HALO, I couldn't NOT take a picture of it! Now it's in my private album on Google Photos. When the lift doors opened at my floor, I saw the lift was leveling intelligently with the floor & it had EPIC PRE-DOORS! Not only that, but the lift car looked ultra grotty, ultra classic & ultra old-style. It looked proper, just the way I liked it! This added to the character by a significant amount!

This was the first OTIS lift I have ridden EVER with this specific type of black button! And I am sure thankful the luggage was too heavy to even consider bringing it down the escalator, otherwise I would never have been able to film this class-filled gem! This is not only the best lift in the entire airport, but this is the best lift I have filmed so far!

A proper ride down

Although my lift ride down to the first floor was relatively short (only 1 flight), it sure was proper! Immediately when the lift doors opened to let us in, I started filming the lift & aiming my camera at the buttons while my family relatives were loading their cart of luggage onto the lift platform. I pressed the button for the first floor & was immediately impressed with how awesome the buttons were! When the doors closed, it smoothly accelerated to full speed (like a traction lift), in fact, so smoothly I could compare it to OTIS E411. While not that amusing, it sure added to the class! Everything, from the old-looking fiberglass black buttons to the grotty interior with vintage fluorescent lighting made this lift the most epic & oldest one I had been able to film thus far. Not only that, but this lift was of the highest quality & one of the SMOOTHEST lifts that I have ever filmed!

The ride down was SO SMOOTH I couldn't even feel any unintended "side-sliding" or "forth-sliding"! When the lift started slowing down, it slowed down so smoothly I could barely tell we slowed down & then the doors pre-opened! It did a full-intelligent leveling at floor 1! Once again two more qualities which contributed to this lift being the best of my career! And to top it all off, I didn't even know the lift was hydraulic until I saw the door to the motor room from a distance while I was walking towards the carpark.

In summary, this was hands down the BEST out of the best lifts this far that I have filmed throughout my career. I know there are even more epic lifts out there (for example, the most epic could be found 90 minutes west of CHARLOTTE), but this one was just a sampler & I am glad I was impressed with this characterful gem!

Why Schindler & KONE make the best traction lifts

Over the past 2 & a half years of filming lifts at different buildings all over the Eastern Seaboard, I have managed to film a handful of OTIS, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp & KONE traction lifts. Here is my assumption: Schindler & KONE make the best traction & MRL traction lifts of any of the 4 major lift brands. Of course, this could be based on personal bias, but it doesn’t go without knowledge that Schindler lifts, are in fact, more efficient time-based than let’s say, ThyssenKrupp lifts. Here are some things that I really love about Schindler & KONE traction lifts. Their fast acceleration / leveling It is no surprise that Schindler & KONE have some of the fastest average accelerating rates of any major lift brand. This is because Schindler & KONE have a perfect reference-tackle system, which is almost unbeatable by standards of other lift brands. One thing I have noticed when riding Schindler lifts is even at low speeds (200-400 FPM), you head feels like...

THE OTIS IN ANAHEIM

Before writing this report, let me quickly give you some background on the lifts and escalators that I have seen during my time at DisneyLand in Anaheim, California with my family. Brief Overview While I was at DisneyLand in Anaheim, I have encountered four sets of very tall MontgomeryKONE escalators, a set of two very fast MontgomeryKONE traction units (partially outdoor as the first landing had a rear door that opened on the outside of the building), this OTIS hydro here that I managed to ride and film & another OTIS hydro that I didn’t get to ride nor film. These lifts, regardless, were still very awesome lifts, but for now, I will be going into a description of this amazing lift. What made this lift so amazing? This particular lift is so amazing because it’s a full-blown commercial hydraulic lift installed fully outdoors , which is rather unusual for an outdoor lift. This alone made it amazing. Upon first glance, it looks like a pretty standard lift that you would typical...

Paramus Lift Galore: June 2022

Written on behalf of the Rising Salamander Academy Lift Galore Date: June 17 Lift Galore Time: 5:00 PM EST It's been a long time since I've last filmed lifts in person, a whole whopping half a year to be exact. I'm excited to be back, but not for long, since I have to finish up my time at Kean University & focus on graduating on time. But for the mean time, let's enjoy our summer recess, film the best lifts we can film & make the most of it! Westinghouse Lift Where: Macy's, Garden State Plaza Time Filmed: 10:10 AM (June 10) Grade: B+ Speed to Height Ratio: 8.1:1 (Fast) Landings Served: 3 The first lift of this lift galore is a 1950's Westinghouse lift which was later modernised by a generic company between the 1980's & early 2000's with EPCO Flushline fixtures on the outside, EPCO Circleline fixtures on the inside. This lift has a speed to height ratio of 8.1:1 which makes it fast for the application & number of landings. This lift is loc...
