Reflecting on this weekend's past Borgata lift experience

OTIS lower third set of lifts at the South Tower of the Borgata hotel in Atlantic City, NJ

Introduction

It was Friday night, at 6:00 in the evening, when I arrived at this magnificent hotel called the Borgata (my 2nd favorite hotel in America). From the Dubai-style architecture to the amazing, epic fast OTIS Elevonic 411 lifts, I absolutely loved my stay at the Borgata hotel very, very much! The Borgata is unlike any other traditional hotel I have ever been to!

Sadly, I did not get to film any OTIS Elevonic 411 lifts at the Waterclub tower, but it's not that big of a loss since I was able to film most of the lifts at my tower (Borgata tower). Additionally, another lift photographer has recently filmed the Waterclub tower lifts, so refer to his video for those lifts.

Things I liked about the Borgata:
  • 5 swimming pools
  • 5 sets of OTIS Elevonic 411 lifts
  • Many, MANY hidden OTIS hydraulic lifts throughout the casino floor
  • Rooftop hydraulic lifts

First lift I filmed

The first lift I filmed was just a standard OTIS 211H hydraulic lift which went from the casino floor to the valet carpark floor in the basement one floor below. The lift had one heck of epic motor on the way up, so I had to take 2 round trips on the lift in order to satisfy the film.

Second lift I filmed

OTIS 211H lift at Waterclub tower to valet carpark
The second lift I filmed was another standard OTIS 211H hydraulic lift (this time at Waterclub). These lifts went down from the lobby floor to the valet carpark floor as well & the motors weren't as amazing as the first lift, so I only took one round trip while filming the lift. I will admit, it was a nice lift though.

Third lift I filmed

The third lift I filmed was at the TOP of the Waterclub tower (floor 32). Floor 32 was double height so that lift served a mezzanine floor between floors 32 & 33 along with floor 32. It was another standard OTIS 211H hydraulic lift, but what made it so epic was its unique cab design & the fact that it was literally placed 300+ FT high. That lift had a motor loud enough to drown the fan when going up. It was actually pretty fast for the amount of space there were between floors.

Next lifts I filmed

The fourth lift I filmed was the first traction lift I filmed. This one was at the Borgata tower & it was the middle third set of lifts. These ones went VERY FAST at a speed of over 1,200 FT per minute & they had a 200 foot blind shaft!
  • A blind shaft is defined as a large gap between one floor & the other. This involves the skipping of many floors. For example, the distance from floors S to 20 is a blind shaft. Therefore, there are no floor buttons from 3 to 19.
It got a pretty funny reaction out of me the first time I rode that lift down to the concourse level. I ended up screaming "OH [expletive] OH CHARLOOOOOOOOOOOOTTE" at a very loud volume & then quietly whispering the name of my FRIRND on the way down.

Dropping off a FRIRND on the way to floor 43
Then I transferred to the set of lifts which served floors 32 to 43. Those lifts were extremely fast & said to travel at the same speed as the Empire State Building's observatory lifts. These lifts had a THREE HUNDRED FOOT blind shaft & it just zipped through it in no time! I was absolutely impressed! When I went to film the lifts that morning, I decided to take two round trips on these lifts. The speed of those lifts were 1,400 FT per minute.

Dropping off 3 FRIRNDS on the way to the top floor
I then went to my set of lifts which only went as high as floor 18. Despite only going 18 floors, they were VERY FAST at a speed of around 800 FT per minute, a speed you'd experience on a typical 30-story hotel lift. I absolutely loved the lifts so much that I decided to film them multiple times. I got many great pictures of the buttons!

Borgata's tallest hydraulic lift

At the casino floor, there was a 3-story hydraulic lift with 1 pseudo-floor right down the hall from the dinner I went to both mornings for breakfast with my family. This is the Borgata's tallest hydraulic lift, at 3 floors. It kept bouncing on the way up & down, which made me love that lift, but unfortunately, I was only able to film this epic lift for one round trip because I was going to go shopping in a mall which I didn't even know was going to have the most epic lifts I filmed on the trip!

The last lift I was able to film was a six-story OTIS Gen2 lift original from 2000 & it was very, very fast for six floors! It had Series 4 buttons from 2000 as well!

In conclusion, I had a very epic time filming the lifts at the Borgata hotel. They had some very epic OTIS lifts! These are the lifts that I DID ride but DIDN'T get to film this time:
  • OTIS 211H pool lift (Borgata tower)
  • Both sets of OTIS Elevonic 411 lifts at the Waterclub tower

Why Schindler & KONE make the best traction lifts

Over the past 2 & a half years of filming lifts at different buildings all over the Eastern Seaboard, I have managed to film a handful of OTIS, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp & KONE traction lifts. Here is my assumption: Schindler & KONE make the best traction & MRL traction lifts of any of the 4 major lift brands. Of course, this could be based on personal bias, but it doesn’t go without knowledge that Schindler lifts, are in fact, more efficient time-based than let’s say, ThyssenKrupp lifts. Here are some things that I really love about Schindler & KONE traction lifts. Their fast acceleration / leveling It is no surprise that Schindler & KONE have some of the fastest average accelerating rates of any major lift brand. This is because Schindler & KONE have a perfect reference-tackle system, which is almost unbeatable by standards of other lift brands. One thing I have noticed when riding Schindler lifts is even at low speeds (200-400 FPM), you head feels like...

Found the source of the problems with my PC

I am proud to finally tell y’all that I believe I have found a definite source of the problems I have been experiencing with my Windows PC over the past few days. It was because of a faulty Windows 10 preview update which was affecting the Windows 10 Recovery Environment. Luckily, I have found a trustworthy program (free of malware) which I could use to debug errors in my PC at any time, minor or major. Luckily,  none of the problems I am experiencing with my PC right now are  anywhere close to what’s happened when I tried to fix windows PC’s in the past. I am still taking  every precaution possible to further decrease the chance of my Windows PC breaking down or crashing. As a matter of fact, my PC almost crashed  this morning , but luckily, I was able to hard-restart the PC to get it working again by holding the power button down for 15-20 seconds. Luckily,  none of the problems I am experiencing with my PC right now are  anywhere close to what’s h...

THE OTIS IN ANAHEIM

Before writing this report, let me quickly give you some background on the lifts and escalators that I have seen during my time at DisneyLand in Anaheim, California with my family. Brief Overview While I was at DisneyLand in Anaheim, I have encountered four sets of very tall MontgomeryKONE escalators, a set of two very fast MontgomeryKONE traction units (partially outdoor as the first landing had a rear door that opened on the outside of the building), this OTIS hydro here that I managed to ride and film & another OTIS hydro that I didn’t get to ride nor film. These lifts, regardless, were still very awesome lifts, but for now, I will be going into a description of this amazing lift. What made this lift so amazing? This particular lift is so amazing because it’s a full-blown commercial hydraulic lift installed fully outdoors , which is rather unusual for an outdoor lift. This alone made it amazing. Upon first glance, it looks like a pretty standard lift that you would typical...
