This past week, I have been nothing but impressed with the lifts I have encountered, ridden & filmed in Clinton & Annandale, NJ. In fact, I was so impressed with the lifts that I have decided to write a JOURNAL POST about the two sets of lifts I’ve filmed.
1980’s OTIS scenic lifts, Beaver Brook office building in Annandale
The 1980s OTIS scenic lifts I filmed in Annandale were the equivalent of all the hydraulic lifts I filmed in Elizabeth narrowed down to 1 small lift. That’s how awesome the lift was. After first initially riding it a few times in Wednesday, July 18, I knew the next day, I absolutely had to film it as it was the perfect lift to film!
So far, I have ridden two sets of lifts in Annandale, my current borough of residence inside of Clinton Township, NJ. The first lift I filmed was a KONE GAL hydraulic which in 2016 completely replaced a 1950s hydraulic unit, most likely from Haughton or OTIS. The signs of character included a bouncy downward start, typical for most GAL hydraulic lifts, bouncy slowdowns & semi-intelligent leveling. While basic by appearance, it was a luxury privilege for me to be able to sneak onto the lift instead of being forced to rely on the stairs to leave the building.
1970’s National lifts, Holiday Inn in Clinton
Although the fine National lifts did not have an up-to-date emergency telephone in them (which made me afraid to ride in the lifts on my own), they ran shockingly different from other hydros I’ve been on in the past. Like the Embassy Suites hotel in Piscataway, these lifts had the exact same buttons & exact same phone & exact same door equipment (GAL Jet Plus Halo black). I rode the lifts with other hotel guests when I filmed the lifts v& managed to get over a minute and a half of decent enough footage of the lifts for me to upload to my YouTube Channel on August 4, at 5:15 PM. These lifts ran completely differently from ANY of the lifts I filmed thus far in Elizabeth, including the 7-story Dover hydraulic lift. The lift started moving as if it was a traction lift with hard-acceleration. Then, when it got to the fifth floor, it slowed down hard, like a standard traction lift from the 80’s in Mexico. When the lift went back down, I noticed it bounced in chunks & did the same while leveling with the ground & second floors. These were absolutely amazing lifts, despite them not having an up-to-date emergency telephone which made me uncomfortable riding these lifts on my own. I’d say these and the lifts in Annandale would easily get a 14/15.
My plans
Upon watching other YouTube videos, I have discovered a slew of other great cities to film lifts by paying attention very closely when watching lift videos. I have decided to revamp CCRS as of September first, with South Carolina getting a 3S ranking on CCRS. Cities with stars next to their name are either towns or townships. Bold cities are ones I am adding to the list as of September 1st. States in italics are direct states on CCRS. 18 states will have cities that are in CCRS, while 9 will be directly on CCRS. After I make the new additions to CCRS, I will officially have 56 cities on CCRS & 9 prioritized states on CCRS. I am not just adding these new cities because I feel like adding them for the fun of it. I am adding these because these cities have truly awesome lifts, which wowed me just by watching videos. Usually, if I watch a video & am impressed with how a lift runs on video, I will more likely be happy with how that lift runs when I actually film it IN PERSON! Because CCRS is expanding ever so quickly to every corner of the country, I am going to have to consider including Canada on the list too! I will wait until September 2019 to consider adding Canadian cities to CCRS. They will all rank lower than the lowest U.S. CCRS city ranking BY DEFAULT. The next round of revisions & additions will be here by October 27, at 8:45 AM. Updates for the possible Hartford trip in December will be going up once every Saturday at 8:45 AM starting November 3 & will continue until December 22. I have a few scenarios ALREADY planned out for the December trip, including:
- Going to Hartford for two nights
- Going to Elizabeth for one morning
- Going to Pittsburgh for one to two nights
- Going to Secaucus, THEN Elizabeth (vice-versa)
I do NOT want to go to Atlantic City UNTIL February 2019, after the conclusion of my August 2018 trip.
