THE CORBIT BUILDING LIFT IN CLINTON TOWNSHIP

Hey all, this will be a quick analysis of the lift at the Corbit Building in Clinton Township, NJ. This lift is a 3 story, early 1980’s model OTIS Hydro 211 with Relay Controls. Upon taking a first look into this lift back in May 2019, I had some doubts about how this lift would work, so I sent it up to floor 3, listening to the motor, before it came back down to my floor. Upon entering the lift, you’re greeted with a nice wooden interior with a charming red carpet floor. The doors are metal and so is the panel. The door open and close buttons are green, while the alarm button is yellow. How does it run? Upon the door closing, there is a 2-second delay, as the motor kicks into gear. You’re pushed upward until you hit a speed of roughly 40 meters per minute going up (which is very fast for this building), taking only 5 seconds to reach floor 2. The button goes out as the door opens, unlike the Beaver Brook lifts where the button goes out as the lift is leveling. These do not have in...

A QUICK ANALYSIS OF EACH OF THE LIFTS AT BRIDGEWATER MALL IN BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP

I do not have much time to elaborate on every single detail of the lifts at the Bridgewater Mall in Bridgewater Township, so I will try to narrow down my analyses as quick as possible. I have no time to include pictures as visuals either, so you’ll just have to refer to the attached YouTube video below. The Mall itself Bridgewater Commons Mall is a mall from the early 1980’s that has gone through quite a few renovations and expansions over the years. Inside the mall, the original anchors are Macy’s and Bloomingdales, which both have Westinghouse lifts, still fully original to the 1980’s construction project. The carpark was added in during the 1990’s and features the first lift I filmed which was the Dover glass hydraulic. Inside the mall, there is a food court on the third floor with three sets of escalators throughout the main part of the mall, with three more sets inside the multi-level stores (Bloomingdales, Macy’s, and Lord & Taylor). The majority of the escalators are Schin...

HORROR STORY 300A’s TO THE UNDERWORLD

Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love the Schindler 300A. I think it was one of the most interestingly-built and programmed low-rise hydraulic lift models of the 1990’s. But, as with any hydraulic lift, the run quality on Schindler 300A’s are always different, as is the case for the two carpark lifts at the Hilton Glendale that go into the “underworld”. Specifically, by the term “underworld”, I mean five or more stories below the ground.   However, before I even filmed these lifts, I first rode them the day before to get a gist of what to expect for run quality when I decided to film them. Before the film Going down To give it a spin, I took the right lift down only one level to floor P1. The door closed with a very loud BANG & the lift jolted down to full speed, almost like a vintage single-speed lift. Despite being scary, this gave the lift more character as the motor going down sounded like a SUBMARINE, much like that giant OTIS Series M2 hydro that Traction151 filme...

QUICK RUNDOWN OF THE NORMAL BEHAVIOR OF A 700A

Tallest 700A’s I have been on Arguably, at 20 stories, these have been the tallest Schindler 700A’s I have EVER been on, and the first I’ve been on in a hotel. However, I have noticed some interesting characteristics of the Schindler 700A in mid to high rise applications. Epic lifts indeed To start off, these lifts had absolutely incredible acceleration, deceleration and leveling. They take off like rockets and travel at a mindblowing speed of 120 meters per minute, despite serving a travel distance of 55-60 meters. The deceleration is similar to the Schindler 700A’s at the Nordstrom store at the Mall at Short Hills, as it smoothly phases into its full deceleration mode. In terms of character, these lifts do tend to make a little bit of noise and shake on the way up and down the tower. Car 3 makes a very loud screeching noise as it accelerates towards level 17 going down, which I find to make the ride even more fun. These lifts were installed in 1993, which gives them even more 199...

Quick Review of the Hard Rock Lifts

This past weekend, I went on a trip to Atlantic City, NJ, my favorite city in Jersey to go lift filming. In the process, I have discovered some early OTIS Elevonic 411s, some extraordinarily unreliable Westinghouse Selectomatic Mark 6 lifts & some OTIS Elevonic 401 lifts recently refurbished by Schindler! My first experience with the otis elevonic 401 The Elevonic 401 was absolutely EPIC and amazing!!! This system that I rode on goes around 6 meters per second, which is fast for any OTIS Elevonic 401. But what made it super awesome was its ever-so-forceful acceleration which had me pinned to the floor on the way up & floating off the floor when decelerating or going down. This was by far my favorite lift in Atlantic City, probably even moreso than the epic OTIS/KONE lifts at Tropicana’s West Tower!! Although my experience only lasted for a minute and a half because I was pressed for time and wanted to avert the “card guards” on the two lowest public floors, I just absolu...

WHAT’S NEW: JUNE 5

My Short Hills Experience wasn’t as good as the one before Upon examining the lift at Nordstrom, which was my first lift of the day, I noticed that only one of the two lifts were actually working, and that lift was still having a couple of problems, including leveling earlier than normal. Already, there was a severe problem. Before second-guessing, I decided to actually speed track it and take a couple of rides in it to make sure the lift was behaving correctly. Once I believed the lift was behaving correctly, I returned to the lift a few minutes later to get a solid clip of it before leaving Nordstrom and walking to the carpark across the bridge. In the carpark, I stumbled upon another basic Short Hills style Schindler RT 300A hydro with M-Series logic. When I got in the lift, my first impression was a standard lift in a carpark. I pushed the button for level 3 while hitting the RECORD button on the Lumia Camera. The lift doors shut & it immediately dropped straight to full spe...

WHAT’S NEW: MAY 29

Made a trip to Millburn Township, New Jersey In Millburn, I filmed around 9 lifts, all at the mall at Short Hills. Disappointment at Neiman Marcus As I was waking into Neiman Marcus on the morning of May 25, I was expecting an original Montgomery Twinkie-M from the 1990’s, but when I got to the lift lobby, I arrived only to find out that the call buttons have been replaced with brand new Innovation Prestige buttons from the past 6 months!!! This was an utter disappointment as I have been wanting to film the original Montgomery lift for ages upon ages!!! Even though the lift appeared to have been modernised, I decided to take a look inside the lift to see if it actually got modernised. Upon entering the lift, turns out that it DID get modernised with a brand new set of Innovation Prestige buttons (pretty good buttons, some of my favorite from Innovation), so I decided to take a ride in it to find out if the machinery have been replaced with new machinery. Turns out, the machinery w...

WEDNESDAY UPDATE: MAY 8

We’re a week closer to June 17 than we were last Wednesday. How are my grades in class looking? Class Graduation requirement Grade in class Got all A’s in first 3 marking periods? Math N A Y Health Y A Y Spanish N A Y English Y B+ N Biology Y A Y History Y B+ N Physics Y B Y Python Prog N A Y Excerpt from last Wednesday’s journal post: If all circumstances play in my favor, then my next lift filming days will be May 25 and 26 (but not May 27). This will happen if I either get no homework for the weekend or I finish all my potential weekend homework on May 24, in addition to studying for any pre-planned tests for the week after and finishing all weekend project tasks on May 24. It will be a NO-STUDYING weekend for final exams. In order for it to happen, ALL of the following circumstances must apply: Circumstance A: I must have FEWER THAN 2 pre-planned tests that are NO MORE than 50 POINTS EACH with a difficulty of no ...

SPRING BREAK IN SUMMARY WHAT TO EXPECT FROM NOW UNTIL JUNE 17

Lifts I filmed over my week off from school: Schindler 400A MRL glass lift in a 9-story courthouse carpark in Elizabeth NJ near KEAN University KONE MCE glass lift (Embassy Suites in Secaucus) KONE HORNRTDISC MonoSpace lift (Embassy Suites in Berkeley Heights Township) Schindler M-Series lift (Nordstrom, short hills mall) OTIS Elevonic 411 lift from 1991 (Nordstrom, Menlo Park Mall) All lifts were filmed OUTSIDE of Clinton Township unless otherwise noted! What will I do with all of these lift videos? Since I have FINALLY found a viable movie maker on my android phone complete with an intro maker app, I am now able to create the same types of videos on my Android which meet the same expectations as I have for the kinds of videos that I create on my Windows PC. At the price of less time needed to spruce up the videos and automatic upload to the cloud, all I simply need to do is upload the videos from Google Photos to YouTube, saving many steps along the way. However, they are ...

Throughout the week of April 21 (Spring break), I will PROBABLY be home in Clinton Township, NJ, due to going to KEAN Uni on Tuesday, April 23rd for an important event anyway. UNEXPECTEDLY PASSED THE ROAD TEST AND I NOW HAVE MY LICENSE. NOW WHAT?

Lift filming is now possible outside of Clinton Township! While I wasn’t expecting to get my driver’s license yesterday (1/64 chance), I was still able to get my driver’s license anyway because I HAVE PASSED THE ROAD TEST!! Here is what is now possible with my probationary driver’s license: Infinitely extending the radius for within I can film lifts Going to Chicago SOLO Going to Los Angeles solo (I can rent some hotel rooms at 18 which makes overnight solo road trips now possible ) Going to Chattanooga and Charlotte SOLO (My wish) Unlimited lift filming trips to Secaucus, Union Township & even ATLANTIC CITY!!!!!! A slew lot more What is expected from now until Spring Break? March 9 or 10 are my ONLY set lift filming days until Spring Break outside of Clinton Township. However, more weekends will be open depending on how many tests and/or projects I have each of the 6 weeks remaining until Spring Break, along with the level of expected rigor of each test (measured on a...

LIFT FILMING UPDATE FOR FEBRUARY/MARCH 2019

February 2019 It is finally February 2019, another great (being sarcastic) month to look forward to (being sarcastic). In terms of lift filming, not much is in the plans for February 2019, other than my obvious birthday trip to Berkeley Heights , a township without rank on the Chicago Chattanooga Ranking System. In Berkeley Heights, I will hopefully be visiting the brand new Embassy Suites hotel to film some new lifts. My expectations for the lifts I expect to find boring generic MCE traction lifts. However, I have high hopes that I will find a Schindler 5500, a KONE HORNRTDISC, OTIS Gen2 or worst case scenario: a ThyssenKrupp Synergy/Evolution 200 . I expect all landings to be locked off & I am actively preparing to face that scenario. However, if a few landings aren’t on restricted access, I may still film the lifts. Likelihood of my birthday trip happening My birthday trip does not have a very big chance of happening. I do NOT expect to film any lifts on the day that I tur...

LIFT FILMING AGENDA UPDATE 1.25.2019 & WILL CHICAGO BE CROWNED THE NEW KING?

Chicago holds a high possibility of being crowned first place . What if I told you that Chicago has some rare and exotic lifts that you probably won’t find in many other places in the U.S.? That is an existence a lift filmer will be delighted with when they go to the city of Chicago. My four figures of reference were: WI Sirens and Elevators Elevators of Lake County CHI Elevators Windy City Elevators Because I have found so many outstanding Montgomery, Dover, SchindlerHaughton, Westinghouse and KONE lifts throughout the city of Chicago, it wouldn’t be sensible for me to write it all under one big blog post, because it would be a big waste of time for me to go into big, elaborate detail on what made each lift stand out. What I found on YouTube in terms of Chicago lifts Mitsubishi and Fujitec These lift filmers have walked around the city of Chicago filming some super nice lifts, and in the process of watching YouTube videos over the past few months, I have found that Ch...
