Reflecting back on the Crayola Factory's Dover lift

On Thursday, I had such a blast on the epic Dover hydraulic lift in the Crayola Factory.

Epic Dover lift in the Crayola Factory
Three things I adored about this lift

Starts like a traction lift

The first thing I noticed when I took my first ride in that lift was that it started exactly like a traction lift. It didn't bounce or jolt to full speed, it just started up really, really smoothly. In fact, I couldn't even hear the motor that well because it was so quiet. Without being said, this is nothing new because most Dover & ThyssenKrupp hydraulic lifts start up very smoothly. This one was clearly no exception. That was so epic, which made me want to film the lift a few more times.

Runs quickly & efficiently

The second thing I noticed when I took my first ride in the lift was that it took not even 10 seconds to clear the first floor even when it was going down & there was a gigantic gap in between the first & second floor. Normally, Dover & ThyssenKrupp hydros are known for being fast hydros, but I definitely wasn't expecting this one to be so quick. Not only that, but when it was going full speed, it didn't bounce. Maybe a little screech in the shaft here & there, but this thing was running perfectly like the day it was installed. Without being said, I hope they do not slow this lift down during the next mod it gets because the speed is perfect the way it is now.

Stops like a traction lift

If that wasn't enough, it even stopped exactly like a traction lift. I was so impressed with how this lift was running & by how downright epic & characterful it was that I just had to continue taking multiple rides in it to satisfy my cravings for character. Basically in a nutshell, this lift behaved just like a 2-speed Otis traction from the 70s would.

Conclusion

Dover made some of the most epic & most characterful hydraulic lifts back in the day, which were built to last many, many years. ThyssenKrupp continues this tradition by making sure they run as smooth as traction lifts! I absolutely adored the lift at the Crayola Factory (despite being a little bit low on formula at the top floor).

In short, when comparing my Black Friday high speed lift experience in New York City, I will have to say, I had so much more fun filming the Dover hydraulic lift.

Why Schindler & KONE make the best traction lifts

Over the past 2 & a half years of filming lifts at different buildings all over the Eastern Seaboard, I have managed to film a handful of OTIS, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp & KONE traction lifts. Here is my assumption: Schindler & KONE make the best traction & MRL traction lifts of any of the 4 major lift brands. Of course, this could be based on personal bias, but it doesn’t go without knowledge that Schindler lifts, are in fact, more efficient time-based than let’s say, ThyssenKrupp lifts. Here are some things that I really love about Schindler & KONE traction lifts. Their fast acceleration / leveling It is no surprise that Schindler & KONE have some of the fastest average accelerating rates of any major lift brand. This is because Schindler & KONE have a perfect reference-tackle system, which is almost unbeatable by standards of other lift brands. One thing I have noticed when riding Schindler lifts is even at low speeds (200-400 FPM), you head feels like...

THE OTIS IN ANAHEIM

Before writing this report, let me quickly give you some background on the lifts and escalators that I have seen during my time at DisneyLand in Anaheim, California with my family. Brief Overview While I was at DisneyLand in Anaheim, I have encountered four sets of very tall MontgomeryKONE escalators, a set of two very fast MontgomeryKONE traction units (partially outdoor as the first landing had a rear door that opened on the outside of the building), this OTIS hydro here that I managed to ride and film & another OTIS hydro that I didn’t get to ride nor film. These lifts, regardless, were still very awesome lifts, but for now, I will be going into a description of this amazing lift. What made this lift so amazing? This particular lift is so amazing because it’s a full-blown commercial hydraulic lift installed fully outdoors , which is rather unusual for an outdoor lift. This alone made it amazing. Upon first glance, it looks like a pretty standard lift that you would typical...

Paramus Lift Galore: June 2022

Written on behalf of the Rising Salamander Academy Lift Galore Date: June 17 Lift Galore Time: 5:00 PM EST It's been a long time since I've last filmed lifts in person, a whole whopping half a year to be exact. I'm excited to be back, but not for long, since I have to finish up my time at Kean University & focus on graduating on time. But for the mean time, let's enjoy our summer recess, film the best lifts we can film & make the most of it! Westinghouse Lift Where: Macy's, Garden State Plaza Time Filmed: 10:10 AM (June 10) Grade: B+ Speed to Height Ratio: 8.1:1 (Fast) Landings Served: 3 The first lift of this lift galore is a 1950's Westinghouse lift which was later modernised by a generic company between the 1980's & early 2000's with EPCO Flushline fixtures on the outside, EPCO Circleline fixtures on the inside. This lift has a speed to height ratio of 8.1:1 which makes it fast for the application & number of landings. This lift is loc...
