Charlotte Kingdom graduation project guideline updates

Guideline updates

Introduction

Due to my vast expansions of the Charlotte Kingdom, I am left with no choice but to tone down on the guidelines for my graduation trip project, which I will be conducting basic research from September 1st 2018 to March 1st 2019, not following a specific format. The guidelines are as follows. I will only be researching the WORST lifts in each city, to know which ones to film first whenever I go my city of choice, which a verdict will be made within 1 week immediately after the graduation ceremony, which will be INFORMALLY announced on the #CharlotteRS hashtag being launched in the first half of 2019. Since I will tend to forget stuff with my busy senior life, I will have this exact journal post bookmarked to my Google Chrome at ALL TIMES during Senior Year, up until graduation day. In addition, I will have a bookmark to the Google doc, which I will be working on frequently when I am not mindlessly riding up & down HORNRT DISC lifts in Elizabeth!

Additionally, plans will be discussed for the December trip, which will be the prequel to the graduation trip. The top 4 candidate cities are as of RIGHT NOW:
  • Hartford 25
  • Atlantic City 31
  • Pittsburgh 22
  • Fort Lauderdale 16
  • Freehold 34*
In addition, I will have a bookmark to the Google doc, which I will be working on frequently when I am not mindlessly riding up & down HORNRT DISC lifts in Elizabeth!
  • I will have no specific font I will use on the project, I will use whatever font I feel is robust enough to get all the information in the project to stand out at different levels. These are the top candidate fonts:
    • Lato (Modern Calibri)
    • Roboto (Modern Arial)
    • Open Sans (Modern Calibri #2)
    • Chivo (Helvetica Neue, Google-style.
Additionally, as of July 1st, I will be releasing a new name for the Charlotte Kingdom, called the Charlotte Ranking System, or Charlotte-RS.

September

  • Make necessary make-up trips to Elizabeth which couldn't be made during the summer.
  • September 1st: Create a Google Doc and create the cover and start working on first 5 cities in the Charlotte Kingdom
    • Charlotte
    • Asheville
    • Indianapolis
    • Saint Louis
    • Kansas City
  • Only do research on the worst lifts that have been filmed in each city.
  • Last week of September: Finalize any research made on strictly those 5 cities.

October

  • Finalize necessary make-up trips to Elizabeth which couldn't be made during the summer OR SEPTEMBER.
  • October 1st: Revise table of contents & start working on the next 5 cities in the Charlotte Kingdom
    • San Diego
    • San Francisco
    • Sacramento
    • Los Angeles
    • Houston
  • Last week of October: Finalize any research made on strictly those 5 cities.

December

  • Discuss plans for winter recess in terms of lift filming itinerary. The current candidates are 25-Hartford, 31-Atlantic City, 22-Pittsburgh, 16-Fort Lauderdale & 34*-Freehold Township. However, other popular cities such as Charlotte & Atlanta could make it on the "candidate squad". These plans will NOT be on the Google doc.
  • December 1st: Revise table of contents & start working on the next 7 cities in the Charlotte Kingdom
    • Pittsburgh
    • Milwaukee
    • Chicago
    • Hartford
    • New Haven
    • Stamford
    • White Plains
  • Also December 1st: Begin releasing update posts regarding the plans for the weekend of my birthday, where I will be turning 18. To celebrate my entrance into "adulthood", I will want to visit ANY city on the Charlotte Kingdom, no matter its ranking. Even Elizabeth is good enough! These plans will NOT be on the Google doc.
  • Last week of December: Finalize any research made on all the above 27 cities. January 2019 is CRUNCH TIME! A decision must be finalized BEFORE 6.21.2019, as I plan to be returning FROM my graduation trip no sooner than TWO WEEKS before my first day of university! I also plan to be DRIVING by September 2019!

January

  • Further discuss plans NOT on the Google Doc about where I want to go to celebrate my 18th birthday.
  • January 1st: Revise table of contents & start working on the last 5 cities in the Charlotte Kingdom
    • Rochester
    • Buffalo
    • Atlantic City
    • Secaucus
    • Elizabeth
  • Last week of January: Announce the verdict for plans for the weekend of 2.8.19. Finalize any research in the Charlotte Kingdom.
  • General for January: Film lifts in Freehold Township.

February

  • First week of February: Prepare follow-up blog posts about ideas for which lifts to film in my city of choice for the 2nd weekend in February.
  • Revise any previous research in Google Doc.
  • Last week of February: Publish Google Doc as a viewable PDF on "links" page of MagicalLift256's Journal

March

  • Announce completion of the research project on MagicalLift256's Journal as a full, detailed journal post to be published on the last Sunday of March.

April through June

  • Discuss plans for the graduation trip. A decision must be finalized before 6.21.2019. I would like for the trip to take place in July 2019 at the worst case scenario. If it ends up being a morning trip, day trip, or happens immediately after the graduation ceremony ( within 1 hour of the ceremony ending or within 2 hours of me getting my high school diploma), I will post the verdict on Google+, and I will hope for you to check Google+ at ANYTIME on 6.13.19 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

June or July

  • Go on graduation trip and film as many lifts as I can possibly get to within the duration of my trip at my favorite city of choice.
  • NOTE: Cities and townships within New Jersey, INCLUDING CLINTON TOWNSHIP, can be added to the Charlotte Kingdom at anytime, especially those with reserved empty spots.
  • Updates to the guidelines will be made during the summer of 2018.

Basic guidelines

  • Find top 5 worst publicly accessible lifts in each city & describe them as seen in video or by verbal description.
  • Film those lifts FIRST, besides the airport and / or hotel lifts
  • Then film the better lifts!

Why Schindler & KONE make the best traction lifts

Over the past 2 & a half years of filming lifts at different buildings all over the Eastern Seaboard, I have managed to film a handful of OTIS, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp & KONE traction lifts. Here is my assumption: Schindler & KONE make the best traction & MRL traction lifts of any of the 4 major lift brands. Of course, this could be based on personal bias, but it doesn’t go without knowledge that Schindler lifts, are in fact, more efficient time-based than let’s say, ThyssenKrupp lifts. Here are some things that I really love about Schindler & KONE traction lifts. Their fast acceleration / leveling It is no surprise that Schindler & KONE have some of the fastest average accelerating rates of any major lift brand. This is because Schindler & KONE have a perfect reference-tackle system, which is almost unbeatable by standards of other lift brands. One thing I have noticed when riding Schindler lifts is even at low speeds (200-400 FPM), you head feels like...

THE OTIS IN ANAHEIM

Before writing this report, let me quickly give you some background on the lifts and escalators that I have seen during my time at DisneyLand in Anaheim, California with my family. Brief Overview While I was at DisneyLand in Anaheim, I have encountered four sets of very tall MontgomeryKONE escalators, a set of two very fast MontgomeryKONE traction units (partially outdoor as the first landing had a rear door that opened on the outside of the building), this OTIS hydro here that I managed to ride and film & another OTIS hydro that I didn’t get to ride nor film. These lifts, regardless, were still very awesome lifts, but for now, I will be going into a description of this amazing lift. What made this lift so amazing? This particular lift is so amazing because it’s a full-blown commercial hydraulic lift installed fully outdoors , which is rather unusual for an outdoor lift. This alone made it amazing. Upon first glance, it looks like a pretty standard lift that you would typical...

Paramus Lift Galore: June 2022

Written on behalf of the Rising Salamander Academy Lift Galore Date: June 17 Lift Galore Time: 5:00 PM EST It's been a long time since I've last filmed lifts in person, a whole whopping half a year to be exact. I'm excited to be back, but not for long, since I have to finish up my time at Kean University & focus on graduating on time. But for the mean time, let's enjoy our summer recess, film the best lifts we can film & make the most of it! Westinghouse Lift Where: Macy's, Garden State Plaza Time Filmed: 10:10 AM (June 10) Grade: B+ Speed to Height Ratio: 8.1:1 (Fast) Landings Served: 3 The first lift of this lift galore is a 1950's Westinghouse lift which was later modernised by a generic company between the 1980's & early 2000's with EPCO Flushline fixtures on the outside, EPCO Circleline fixtures on the inside. This lift has a speed to height ratio of 8.1:1 which makes it fast for the application & number of landings. This lift is loc...
