Comparison between Secaucus and Elizabeth: A PLACEMENT HAS BEEN DETERMINED!

Here is a solid comparison between two close towns

One major drawback is that not all of the lifts in Elizabeth have been filmed! However, this means good news because I will then be the first lift enthusiast to film lifts in the buildings where lifts have never been filmed! To make this a reality, I will be going to Elizabeth regularly, on a monthly or bi-monthly basis, to film other lifts that I did not get to film the previous time. The Courtyard hotel and Residence Inn hotels are on my bucket list for my mid-summer visit to Elizabeth.
  • Currently, Secaucus is in 32nd place & Elizabeth is on 33rd place on the Charlotte Kingdom before the comparisons.

7-story hydraulic lifts

That's right, both towns have a set of 7-story hydraulic lifts. However, Elizabeth's 7-story hydros are completely original from the pre-2000 millennium and are Dover Impulse, while Secaucus's 7-story hydros have been completely replaced with modern-day Monitor PC, by Fujitec Lift Company. However, Elizabeth has more tall hydros extending beyond 5 stories than Secaucus, putting Elizabeth in a better spot.

Which one is more epic?

  • Obviously, the 7-story hydraulic lifts in Secaucus are modern and bland, but I have never ridden them in person to find out what they are like first-hand, so I will leave the decision until after I get the opportunity to film those lifts. This one is located at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in downtown Secaucus.
  • The hydraulic lifts in Elizabeth are still in their original pre-millennium state, with their epic Dover controllers & not to mention the unique floor passing chime that you don't usually hear on too many Dover lifts everyday. This one is located at the Country Inn and Suites by Radisson hotel.

Final verdict

In this case, Elizabeth steals the crown for having the better 7-story hydraulic lifts (at least until AFTER the lift in Secaucus has been filmed by ME). Secaucus has lost in this category.

Embassy Suites hotel

That's right, both towns have an Embassy Suites hotel. For this comparison, I will first compare the characteristics and style of the buildings, and then compare the characteristics of the lifts. I will then deduct valuable qualitative data from both of the lifts to see which town will get the winning crown.

Which one is more epic?

  • Let's start with the Embassy Suites hotel in Secaucus. This hotel has a very British feel to it. It has a typical triangular style atrium & is 9 stories tall, just like any other typical Embassy Suites hotel. The lifts are scenic & are Westinghouse Selectomatic Mark 5, but the controls have obviously been upgraded to MCE controls. The buttons have been replaced with Innovation fixtures, and the acceleration rates are typical. One noticeably unique characteristic that makes these lifts unique from other Embassy Suites locations with traction lifts is the floor indicator's blue color, as well as skipping three floors ahead of the current floor in both directions. Rattling noises put these lifts in a rising spot.
  • Let's finish off with the Embassy Suites hotel near Newark Airport. This hotel has a strong Spanish/Central-American feel and a Florida-like theme to its already outstanding modern architecture. Just the lobby alone impressed me, with the exorbitantly high ceiling & its protrusion from he building itself. Then we go to the KONE EcoDisc lifts, which one of them was out of order for routine maintenance. Getting to the lifts, I decided not to film them on the first ride up because I wanted to be able to see if I was impressed with how they ran before tapping the RECORD button. By the time I got to floor 8, I was terrifically impressed & started gaining a sudden liking for KONE, which is atypical to the lift filming community. The view, however, was BREATH TAKING! We were so high up that it literally looked like 9 stories above the ground, not 8. The lifts were a little bit slow going up, but the reason why was because of the amount of space in between the floors. On the way back down from floor 8, I decided to go to floor 2, because in the lobby there were people walking around. However, halfway down the shaft, my camera app froze & stopped working, so I had to reopen the camera app and take an extra round trip on the EcoDisc lift, of course, missing the perfect shot of the intelligent leveling and predoors. However, the loud thomping brake definitely made up for it & it made the lift even more fun to film. The clunking brakes were my favorite part of the lift. Although they went slower, they had very fast acceleration, so they actually felt like they were going at a considerably realistic speed for a typical 8 or 9-story building, even though they were going the speed typical for a 5 or 6-story building. Jeez, no wonder the view looked so good. They also had a voice, which gives the lift even more character.

General comparison between Secaucus and Elizabeth

  • Secaucus has basic lifts you can EXPECT to find in any of the 32 cities as standard public and hotel lifts.
  • Elizabeth has rare lifts you can find in generally higher-ranking cities on the Charlotte Kingdom.

Verdict

  • After taking in the vast differences between some of Secaucus's lifts & some of Elizabeth's lifts, I will now look at the key differences between the lifts, which can serve as the ultimate win-or-lose decision for Secaucus:
    • Secaucus has a modernized 7-story hydraulic, while the other town has an original 7-story hydraulic.
    • Secaucus has glass traction lifts in one of its hotels, while the other town does not, unless you go to the DoubleTree hotel in Newark.
    • Secaucus has more hotels and other film-frirndly buildings to film lifts at than the other town, not including Newark Airport and other hotels near Newark Airport.
    • Secaucus does NOT have EPCO SSL fixtures on ANY of their film-frirndly lifts, while the other town has at least one hotel that uses EPCO SSL fixtures on their lifts. This is a major negative bounce for ELizabeth, but a positive bounce for Secaucus.
      • So far, Secaucus is keeping its placement.
    • Secaucus has an OTIS GEN2 lift with no voice announcements and no clunking / thumping brakes / semi-intelligent leveling, and strictly a modern British / American feel and style to the building which houses the lifts, while Elizabeth has a KONE ECODISC with multiple characterful elements, including car styles, smaller car sizes (epic win), and slightly loud clunking / thumping brakes / semi-intelligent leveling. The building housing the EcoDisc lifts has a strictly Spanish / Central American feel to it, giving it more uniqueness and style. The EcoDisc lifts also have a fast acceleration rate and the floor indicators advance one floor ahead, which are other characterful elements to consider. This is a major positive bounce for Elizabeth, but a major negative bounce for Secaucus. Additionally, the EcoDiscs rise further than Secaucus's MRL's, which is another winning factor.
    • Elizabeth has more tall hydros and more tall Dover lifts than Secaucus, including a MALL. The tallest film-frirndly hotel which doesn't have sucky lifts is 11 floors. Take Secaucus's 10-story Meadowlands Plaza hotel into consideration.
    • Secaucus has faster lifts than Elizabeth, including more options to choose from, which can be a big deciding factor.
    • Secaucus has many different brands, types, and styles of lifts to film, not just typical Dover, Schindler and KONE. He has way more types of lifts to film than Elizabeth does.
  • After conducting a thorough summary of the comparison between Secaucus and Elizabeth, here is the verdict:
    • Secaucus will remain in 32nd place on the Charlotte Kingdom.
    • Elizabeth will remain in 33rd place on the Charlotte Kingdom.
  • Freehold and Morristown now have EMPTY SPOTS on the Charlotte Kingdom BELOW THE TWO TOWNS, which will be filled when I have final feelings after filming a generous amount of typical lifts in the two townships. They will be placed on the Charlotte Kingdom in the order that I feel comfortable placing them with. This means that if I feel that Morristown should have a higher placement on the Charlotte Kingdom than Freehold Township, then that means Morristown will be directly below Elizabeth at the #34 spot. From watching YouTube videos, I expect Freehold to have a higher spot on the Charlotte Kingdom than Morristown anyway.
  • Edison and New Brunswick will not be getting empty spots on the Charlotte Kingdom until Freehold and Morristown go on the Charlotte Kingdom in the CORRECT ORDER. My goal is to attempt to put Clinton Township on the Charlotte Kingdom BEFORE the decade ends!

Found the source of the problems with my PC

I am proud to finally tell y’all that I believe I have found a definite source of the problems I have been experiencing with my Windows PC over the past few days. It was because of a faulty Windows 10 preview update which was affecting the Windows 10 Recovery Environment. Luckily, I have found a trustworthy program (free of malware) which I could use to debug errors in my PC at any time, minor or major. Luckily,  none of the problems I am experiencing with my PC right now are  anywhere close to what’s happened when I tried to fix windows PC’s in the past. I am still taking  every precaution possible to further decrease the chance of my Windows PC breaking down or crashing. As a matter of fact, my PC almost crashed  this morning , but luckily, I was able to hard-restart the PC to get it working again by holding the power button down for 15-20 seconds. Luckily,  none of the problems I am experiencing with my PC right now are  anywhere close to what’s h...

LIFT FILMING AGENDA UPDATE 1.25.2019 & WILL CHICAGO BE CROWNED THE NEW KING?

Chicago holds a high possibility of being crowned first place . What if I told you that Chicago has some rare and exotic lifts that you probably won’t find in many other places in the U.S.? That is an existence a lift filmer will be delighted with when they go to the city of Chicago. My four figures of reference were: WI Sirens and Elevators Elevators of Lake County CHI Elevators Windy City Elevators Because I have found so many outstanding Montgomery, Dover, SchindlerHaughton, Westinghouse and KONE lifts throughout the city of Chicago, it wouldn’t be sensible for me to write it all under one big blog post, because it would be a big waste of time for me to go into big, elaborate detail on what made each lift stand out. What I found on YouTube in terms of Chicago lifts Mitsubishi and Fujitec These lift filmers have walked around the city of Chicago filming some super nice lifts, and in the process of watching YouTube videos over the past few months, I have found that Ch...

QUICK RUNDOWN OF THE NORMAL BEHAVIOR OF A 700A

Tallest 700A’s I have been on Arguably, at 20 stories, these have been the tallest Schindler 700A’s I have EVER been on, and the first I’ve been on in a hotel. However, I have noticed some interesting characteristics of the Schindler 700A in mid to high rise applications. Epic lifts indeed To start off, these lifts had absolutely incredible acceleration, deceleration and leveling. They take off like rockets and travel at a mindblowing speed of 120 meters per minute, despite serving a travel distance of 55-60 meters. The deceleration is similar to the Schindler 700A’s at the Nordstrom store at the Mall at Short Hills, as it smoothly phases into its full deceleration mode. In terms of character, these lifts do tend to make a little bit of noise and shake on the way up and down the tower. Car 3 makes a very loud screeching noise as it accelerates towards level 17 going down, which I find to make the ride even more fun. These lifts were installed in 1993, which gives them even more 199...
