After riding a new Schindler traction lift the last time I went to Secaucus (last Sunday), I discovered my new favorite kind of traction lift: The Schindler 6400/5500.
Similarities between the Schindler 6400 & the 5500
The Schindler 6400 & 5500 use the same exact motor; except the 5500 one is for brand new Schindler builds. This model is available in 2 forms: motor-room-less (MRL) or mini motor room (MMR). Both the Schindler 6400 & the 5500 run exactly the same way; they have intelligent leveling, are extremely quick (time-wise, not travel-speed wise) & they are absolutely epic with countless possible ways.
The Schindler 6400 is used primarily for modernizing or replacing old traction lifts. I like the design of the 6400 traction lift though because the motor design looks extremely epic. How do I know this? I have looked at a video from Schindler's YouTube Channel & multiple diagrams of the Schindler suspension traction media VF motor. Without being said, for modernizations, I think the Schindler 6400 definitely takes the crown here & as well as that, it is the most efficient mid-rise traction lift on the market besides the Otis Gen2. Like the 5500, the Schindler 6400 also uses steel belts; 12 cables to 1 belt, which adds to the character of the lifts. This also makes the lift safer, more durable, more reliable & even more epic!
For Schindler mods, the 6400 mostly uses MAD buttons, which are also mostly concave, which makes this mod the perfect choice for old lifts.
Schindler 5500
The Schindler 5500 is basically the motor-room-less, energy-efficient version of the absolutely epic Schindler 6400. It uses the same motor & the same logic. The only difference is the motor is above the top floor sitting on a beam at the top of the lift shaft. IMO, this setup is really, really epic for MRL. They still use steel belts (as per the Schindler suspension traction media).
The Schindler 5500 could serve up to 50 floors when MRL & could travel at a speed of up to 150 meters per minute, which I think is perfect for a building 20 stories tall. The MMR version has the same speed restriction as the MRL version, only it uses a mini motor room on the roof of the building & the 5500 motor is set up exactly like the 6400 motor.
Very epic lifts
Lots of intelligent leveling
Even at there slowest speed (55 meters per minute) they are still very fast due to the fact that they decelerate extremely quickly & it has a lot of intelligent leveling (doors open while it's still decelerating for the last split second). I very much like this feature on Schindler's VF logic because not only does it save a lot of time when commuting from floor to floor, but you are not just waiting around forever for a high speed lift to open the doors. The intelligent leveling is what gives the Schindler 5500 & the 6400 a lot of there character.
Foreign button design
If you look at the typical buttons Schindler puts on there mod traction lifts (TXPress), you'd see they mostly use MAD BS. Innovation buttons are still very nice, but they are for cheaper mods, which are still just as nice as the posh mods.
For new Schindler installations (MRL & MMR 5500), Schindler mostly uses there own buttons (which are really nice Linea 100 buttons), or they go with ADAMS California compliant Survivor buttons, which are still very nice to put on a lift because they look almost exactly like what they put on there vandal resistant 330A hydraulic lifts.
What good cities have this?
So far, from what I've seen right now, it seems that Charlotte, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Houston, Pittsburgh & Secaucus have at least ONE Schindler 6400 OR 5500 accessible to the public. Pittsburgh has a bunch of 5500s, 3300s & 6400s, Houston has quite a few & even SECAUCUS has one!
Conclusion
No traction lift going under 150 meters per minute beats the Schindler 6400 or the 5500.
